Recently, the State Revenue Council raised the State budget shortfall for the 2011-2012 biennium to $5.1 billion. Sadly, the shortfall will only be this small if State revenue increases at a rate of 13% in the next two years. If instead, revenue remains flat as it has the past two years, then the budget shortfall will skyrocket to more than $8 billion. This June, the legislature is planning on cutting an additional $500 million in school funding by delaying the Basic Education payment - for the first time in State history. More than $3 billion has already been cut from school funding in the past 3 years. 

Meanwhile, not one penny has been cut from the BILLIONS in tax breaks given away every year to the richest corporations in the history of our planet.

The Paramount Duty of the legislature is to fund public schools - not to give tax breaks to their wealthy corporate benefactors!

Cutting another $500 million in school funding could lead to the firing of as many as 5,000 teachers and harm the future of one million school children. 

I have therefore drafted a Resolution to temporarily suspend tax breaks for any corporation making more than one billion dollars per year. See our website
